Atomos announced the new firmware AtomOS 10.3. for the Shogun 7 at this years IBC, which has finally become available for download.

The new firmware AtomOS 10.3 unlocks the full potential of the Shogun 7 panel, with a new peak brightness measuring 3000nit* (+/- 10%) for improved HDR. Combined with the Dynamic AtomHDR technology, the 3000nit firmware update yields 15+ Stops of Dynamic Range, allowing you to see the image captured at your camera’s sensor more accurately. The peak brightness of 3000nit is automatically applied in PQ and HLG mode, in modes Rec.709 and native the function has to be activated manually. The HDR capabilities are said to have improved significantly in combination with dynamic backlighting, producing deeper blacks and achieving the brightest point at 3000nit (+/- 10%). An intelligent algorithm analyzes the image scene by scene.

The update also allows to record 2Kp240 DCI / HD footage from Sony RAW (FS700 with RAW update, S5 with RAW update, FS5 MkII, FS7 Mki / II with XDCA-FS7 expansion pack) and Panasonic RAW (Varicam LT and EVA). 1), as well as the output of Dolby Vision ™ to Dolby Vision-capable displays (selected LG models including the C8 and E8 series).

About the monitor itself:

The Atomos Shogun 7 is a precision HDR monitor-recorder-switcher designed for the film and video professional. It can be used as either a stand-alone field monitor, recorder and switcher for event, documentary and live in-the-field storytelling; or as a tool for large-scale on-set episodic TV, film and cinema productions where multiple crew members such as focus pullers, grips and cinematographers require a consistent visual reference across the field monitor ecosystem. Shogun 7’s portable size lets you monitor, analyze and tag while on set; and check how your content will look in your audience’s home via real-time Dolby Vision output. With Shogun 7 you’re not locked into any format, camera manufacturer or pipeline. It is a completely flexible master recording and production station.
